Sporting Values

Lillington Free Church Table Tennis Club prides itself in being a family friendly club and wishes to foster this environment by playing the game in an enjoyable atmosphere and sporting manner.

The club feels it important to demonstrate sporting behaviour at all times, particularly in matches but also during any club run coaching or practice sessions.

During matches we expect our players and supporters to show a high level of integrity, so that games can be enjoyed by all and any opponents and their supporters leave feeling they have played against a club with high values.

Code of Conduct

  • Make sure you understand and observe the laws of table tennis. Play to win, but play fairly within the letter of the laws.
  • Always try your best even when playing a much stronger or weaker opponent.
  • Avoid arguments, bad temper and bad language.
  • As a courtesy, please acknowledge lucky points you win through nets and edges and shake hands with your opponent and the umpire at the end of the game.
  • Try and support your fellow team members where possible, stay in the room to watch their games and avoid use of mobile phones during play.
  • If difficulties do arise, encourage your club mates and supporters to act appropriately.
  • Umpiring is a fundamental part of playing table tennis and it is expected that players umpire at their matches. Ask for assistance if needed and do not rely on others to umpire. Respect and accept the umpire’s decision at all times. (We recommend calling a ‘Let’ and replaying the point to help dispel a dispute).
  • During practice and coaching sessions please respect other players and coaches. Players helping each other’ is a founding principle of the club and a tradition to be proud of. Always try your best but when playing against or practising with a club member of weaker standard, adjust your game accordingly in order to help them improve.

Should any player or supporter feel the standard of behaviour they have observed falls short of expected club standards please raise the matter with the club chair person so that the matter can be investigated and if required action taken. You have the right to be part of a friendly and sporting club.
