Saturday morning Coaching
We hope you have all enjoyed the school holidays. Our Saturday coaching sessions recommence on April 18th at both BT school and Free Church.
Club Tournament
We held one of our most successful tournaments at the beginning of March in terms of entry and standards. It was particularly pleasing to see so many of our girls entering the Beginners event. Many people commented on the way Monika, our top lady, and Susie, our top junior girl, encouraged and supported the girls and the fact that their group was really enjoying one another’s company. Sport ought to be social as well as competitive!!
You will be able to see our results on our club web-site but I would particularly like to mention the trophy winners from our club.
Owain Jones won the Senior event in the morning. In the junior event, which was a round robin, Alfie Green finished a creditable 4th .
Otis Green was runner-up in the Cadets and David Wong was runner-up in the Cadets Consolation event.
Thomas Pinnington won the under 13 Consolation.
In the afternoon Stefan Birca was runner-up in Grade A. Tobias Eriksson was the runner-up in the Grade B Consolation.
David Wong won the Improvers event and Alice Eriksson won the Beginners Consolation with Elsa Green as the runner-up. A word of praise to Kyra Fernandes who reached the semi-final of the main Beginners competition.
Many thanks to all who entered.
Junior British Clubs League Day 4
Our junior team played in Wellingborough on the final day of competition in March. The squad was seriously depleted by school and Duke of Edinburgh events so our top cadet, Otis Green, joined Shivam Gupta and Johan Pretorius to compete in Division 3 of 4. The team suffered two narrow defeats, 2-4, to both St Neots and Chesham Grammar school and fell 0-6 to the eventual champions, Luton, but bounced back to win their last two matches against Milton Keynes C 4-2 and Warren Spring C from Great Wymondley in Hertfordshire 4-2. The team finished 4th of 6.
Cadet British Clubs League
The following day our cadet team travelled to Wellingborough to compete in Division 4 of 5. Without Otis, last minute illness robbed the team of a third player. Nonetheless Anay Aroon and Thomas Pinnington overcame Blitz of Worksop and Milton Keynes B 5-4 despite ceding 3 points. The Champions, Rugby, were too strong defeating us 9-0. Runners-up medals were a worthy reward for the squad of Anay, Otis, Leon Hayward and Thomas over the 4 days.
Senior British Clubs League
On the last weekend of March our Senior squad travelled to Wellingborough to compete in Division 1 B of the above League. Four impressive wins resulted. Halton of Widnes were overcome 7-2, Colin Deaton TTC of Chesterfield were beaten 6-3, Britannia of Ipswich were dispatched 5-4 and Sycamore of Nottingham 6-3. James Berry, Ricardo Bolanos, Lee Dorning, Monika Tomaszek and Rex Wong comprised the squad who finished 3rd of 8 teams. Rex, our top junior, won all 8 of his singles and all 4 doubles.
In addition Chris Jones, Dan Shaw and Greg Swan competed in division C3 of this league for Bicester and came up against Free Church club mate Stefan Birca who was playing for Kidlington Forum.
Next Tournament
Our next tournament takes place on Saturday 9th May at St Nicholas Leisure Centre in Warwick. Entry forms are on our club-web-site.
